First Bosnian students graduate from the Qatar Academy in Doha


Amila, Zina, Adnan and Dino- the best of the Class of 2001!

Four students from Prva bosnjacka gimnazija from Sarajevo (First Bosniak High School) graduated with honors from the Qatar Academy in Doha.

Amila Husic, Zina Zisko, Adnan Handzic and Dino Terzic were the first four students benefited by the Agreement signed between the First Bosniak High School from Sarajevo and the Qatar Academy from Doha in 1998, which established close ties of cooperation between the two educational institutions with the common aim of pursuing excellence.
On the bases of the Agreement, four outstanding students who finished grade 2nd and passed the exam executed by the Qatar Academy, were awarded with a scholarship for the two year term achieving the Diploma of this internationally recognized school.
The Graduation Ceremony held on 15th of June, 2001 was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al- Thani, the Emir of Qatar and his wife Sheikha Mooza, founders of the Qatar Foundation, the members of the Executive Board, Director and the teachers who all highlighted not only the outstanding results of our students in academic field but also their human values, great personalities and positive spirits.

In his speech, Mr. T. Hunt, Director, expressed his pleasure and gratitude for such a wonderful group of students that Bosniak High School provided, and underlined the important roll of Bosnian students who gave an international dimension to the School.

Mr. M. McGrath and Mr. R. Hart, Head of the Sixth Form, told us how important our children, with their excellent education and skills were for the others as an example of hard working and goal pursuing youngsters. They all expressed their warm welcome for the new students to come in September.

During the reception held after the Ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Omerspahic addressed Their Highness, the Emir and His Wife and expressed the gratitude on behalf of our students and the First Bosniak High school, and besides warm and emotional worlds describing these four young people, received assurances that Qatar Academy would continue supporting this kind of students interchange.
Out of 16 graduates of different nationalities, the Ceremony opening recitation from the Holly Qur’an was performed by our Dino, (excellent Arabic and English!), Zina spoke about her experience in Doha (lovely story!), Amila played flute beautifully and Adnan was assisting his disabled Indian classmate.

It was such an honor and pleasure for Bosnian Ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Mr. Husein Omerspahic and First Secretary of the Embassy Ms. Narcisa Abdulagic who attended the Ceremony, as well as for Ms. Larisa Pasic and her daughters, and Mr. and Ms. Ceric, Bosnians working in Doha who have been very supportive to our students here and accompanied them as family members, to hear all those beautiful words told about our children. Those words are so encouraging and give hope and trust in brighter future.

What's their next step?
Amila is going on a week-long charitable mission to Cambodia(!), than back home to Sarajevo to spent her well gained summer vacations before becoming a medical student in England, Zina is looking forward to starting her studies of Architecture, Dino and Adnan are still considering various attractive opportunities.
